Calling Yourself Liberal and Religious won’t MAKE You a Good Person

PartyPlayFairDemo

Today we have two re-writes of older articles that seem very relevant today:

First, we will take the “Liberals” as well as the “Conservatives” to task for partisan hypocrisy…

Nowadays the word Liberal is often used as a pejorative; I often use it that way myself for good reasons.

Yet I am a moderate, and probably spend about 40% of the time cursing the idiocy of the Left, and 60% of it complaining and worrying about the Right (It is too bad there are not more real conservative minds in the Conservative camp these days.). Of the two the Conservatives tend to scare me a bit more but the Leftists in total power would be/ have been worse. But the actions of the radicals on either side do not condemn entire schools of thought to a mature mind.  This should be remembered by pundits on both sides in this age of attack politics.

Lately a radically Conservative group has taken over almost all the political voice of conservative American Christianity.  They have used their pulpit to propound, and pound in, their own view of history, and how Christianity has influenced the development of the United States as a nation.

They are not actually lying about the influence of the churches. The problem is that they have forgotten from just where in the Church all that influence came.  Yes, it was those damn liberals every time!

In American history, every time the religious culture has had a profound positive influence (as judged by successive generations) on changes in society those influences have their roots in the Liberal-to-Radical churches. They most certainly did not come from the Conservative ones!

The Conservative Churches in every case have held the line with the status quo through history whether it was regarding the Revolution, slavery, child labor, workers rights, racial equality or now, gay rights.  Yet the Conservative Churches of today want to shine their halos with the contributions made for the most part by the Liberal Churches of the past.

This activity is not unique to Christianity by any means.  A Radical Conservative Jew will spend much energy telling you about Judaism’s amazing contributions to Western society, but will refuse to see that his brand of thinking never produced any of it.  Find a Conservative Imam, and you will find a man eager to convince you that Islam has been an enormously positive contributor to civilization over the centuries.  But if you remind him that blind faithfulness to Islam’s Conservative philosophy had nothing to do with the various periods of (heretically liberal) Islamic glory that he is polishing up for you to admire; he may even take offense.

In every case where religious and political power intermingle the things that modern world civilization would call progress has only come when the dominant Church(s) is(are) liberal to the point of being heretical (to the parent dogmas and doctrines), tolerant and more focused on understanding, accepting and spreading the “love behind the Law” rather than promoting a zero-tolerance attitude regarding adherence to the “Letter of the Law.”

But only stagnation and decay ensue when the Churches are conservative and cling to a memory, or fictitious ideal, of “the way it should be.”

It should be noted that Conservative religious thought can have a greatly positive influence on society but, that usually the effects remain chiefly negative.

Witness: the defense of slavery, and the stances of “Godly” preachers and priests against child labor laws, and minority civil rights laws.

Witness: the attempts at forced, coerced and violent conversions directed at any people of another religion that are under the influence of a politicized religion (theocracies, inquisitions, shari’a states).

We all admit that Conservatism is designed to be highly successful at keeping the wheels of a society turning. Who but a fool will deny that there is a true virtue most times in maintaining most of the status quo; Leftists take note of the qualifications and keep your straw men to yourselves – I am not Christian, and never have been a Republican, or supporter of either Bush.

But, it also must be admitted that Conservative governments and organizations have a poor track record when attempting to grease those wheels, to make accommodation for the fact that seems “odd“, “weird“, “different” to the average mind; whether the ideas are good ones or not!

When the going gets rough or to be a creative inspiration for the people who bear the main burdens of pushing the cart of civilization further, faster and safer than our ancestors ever believed it could go Conservatives can be of more a drag chain when they should be acting like the regenerative brakes that go with a hybrid engine.

Conservative ideology certainly does not allow real flaws in the basic social system to be changed without a protracted, and often ugly, fight with the liberal mindset who are busy finding things that are not really broken to make into really nasty situations with well-meaning new laws and more, and more, and more tension from enforcement, and less and less elbow room for the well-intentioned citizen just trying to get along and improve their lives.

Without a Liberal element in society, one that has enough influence to smack the current bosses on the head now and then but, not enough to dominate society  a person lives in what is at best a well upholstered slave camp destined to fade into the dust of history.

And…

Without a Conservative element at the core to give perspective and balance a people will… well, just look at the aftermath of every single revolution in the past – the American revolution was actually a colony revolt – it was an independently evolving, functioning society that broke away from the parent nation/culture rather than an indigenous movement to topple all the central power structures and replace them ad hoc with unproven or dis-proven but, “much better” institutions; not long after they succeed the real bloodshed is just beginning!

Who was it again that decreed with proven ‘Holy Authority‘ that all human problems can, and may, only be solved by a totally Left-wing or totally Right-wing ideology? When did admitting that your Party’s platform cannot solve all problems if followed by “good” people?

The voting public needs to take off their trendy, strait-jackets/sheep-outfits, grow up, and look at reality – of the real kind, rather than the oh-so-importantly-unimportant political sort – and then find the ideal solutions, not the solutions that serve your political tribe while walking over everyone else’s Lives’, Liberties, and frantic Pursuits of Happiness.

India moves one step closer to ‘Quranic values’….

ALLAHABAD: In a judgment with far-reaching implications, the Allahabad high court has ruled that a non-Muslim bride must convert to Islam to marry a Muslim. Failing that, the matrimony with a Muslim man would be void as it would contradict Islamic dicta and tenets of the Quran, the court said.

The ruling on Monday by a division bench comprising Justices Vinod Prasad and Rajesh Chandra, came on a writ petition filed by Dilbar Habib Siddiqui. The petitioner had sought quashing of an FIR registered against him on March 17 under sections 323, 366 and 363 of IPC with Naini PS, Allahabad and prayed the court not interfere in his peaceful matrimonial life with Khushboo Jaiswal. The judges directed a speedy probe into the marriage of Siddiqui and ordered the cops to separate Khushboo Jaiswal, who was lodged in Nari Niketan, and hand her over to her parents.

The primary question for adjudication was on whether the FIR could be quashed or not. A perusal of the contents of the FIR indicated that Khushboo Jaiswal was alleged to have been abducted by the petitioner three months prior to its lodging. However, the petitioner had succeeded in preventing the FIR from being registered. The FIR was filed by the girl’s mother, Sunita Jaiswal, who alleged that the petitioner had abducted her daughter. She contended that Khushboo never converted to Islam and there was also no documentary evidence to suggest so.

"In our above conclusion we are fortified by the fact that in the affidavit filed by Khusboo herself subsequent to her alleged contract marriage, she has described herself as Khushboo and not by any Islamic name. As Khushboo, she could not have contracted marriage according to Muslim customs. In those documents she has addressed herself as Khushboo Jaiswal," the verdict said.

"Thus, what is conspicuously clear is that Khushboo Jaiswal never converted and embraced Islam and therefore her marital tie with the petitioner Dilbar Habib Siddiqui is a void marriage since the same is contrary to Islamic dicta and tenets of Holy Quran," the court ruled.

Back to CMSA: Assimilating American Muslims or Surrendering to Them?

.Today Heretics Crusade is going to be continuing to look at the Congressional Muslim Staffer’s Association (CMSA). In a series of changes CMSA made to their website there has been added new links to the Resources Page. Under Major Reports we find this document as the only report linked regarding Muslims in America.

Strengthening America: The Civic and Political Integration of Muslim Americans(The Chicago Council). It is this document that I will be analyzing. It is the sole document linked on the CMSA Resource Page regarding relations with American Muslims.
Despite the title there is little in this report designed to strengthen America. “Blaming America: Promoting Islamization Rather Than Integration” would be a better title in my opinion. Every word drips with a victim’s mentality, and the authors find many ways to blame America for every problem, real or imagined, experienced by American Muslims.
Meanwhile the document seems to be defining “real” Muslims as those who haven’t yet broken any laws to promote Islam no matter their ideology.
Hang on to your knickers Virginia, this is going to be a long strange trip.
Executive Summary
Muslim Americans were thrust into the spotlight by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, whose perpetrators claimed to be acting in the name of Islam.
From the first sentence the passive aggressiveness is apparent. M.A’s were “thrust” into the spotlight and the perpetrators only “claimed” Islamic imperative.
Many Americans, knowing little about Islam or about Muslims living in the United States, came to identify the terrorist threat with the Muslim community at large and to view Muslim Americans with deep suspicion and doubt.
This had nothing to do with the instances of “mainstream” Imam after Imam excusing attacks on non-Muslim civilians of course. It also had nothing to do with attack after unconstitutional attack in the courts on separation of church and state.  It CERTAINLY had nothing to do with the ideology demanded by the Shari’a; banish the thought.  It just “sort of happened” seems to be the theory, and a generous helping of Inherent American Racism And Xenophobia™ of course.
Nearly six years later, fears and suspicion remain. Terrorism remains an urgent threat, the terrorists continue to wrap themselves in the mantle of Islam, misunderstandings persist, and the ability of Muslim Americans to counter the rising tide of skepticism has been impeded, damaging the efforts of the many who are ardently trying to carve a constructive place in American society.
Interestingly, here we see a stark admission that “terrorism” and “the terrorists” are intimately linked with the “mantle of Islam.” It is not made clear just WHO is doing the “misunderstanding” however.  What we ARE assured of is that the faceless villains of this report are keeping the invisible (to non-Muslim eyes) proponents of “Muslim Americans” from carving out their piece of the American Dream.  From my reading of the news though, the biggest threat to moderate Muslim voices in America isn’t non-Muslims, it is the pretend “moderates” shilling for fundamentalist Islamist domination of Western Institutions who conspire to keep American Muslims from assimilating. Groups such as CAIR and the MSA.
Despite these limitations, many Muslim Americans joined with other Americans in responding to the September 11 attacks.  They volunteered time and money to relief efforts. Several leading national Muslim organizations came out immediately to condemn the attacks. Others have cooperated with law enforcement agencies to address homeland security challenges.
Forgotten here are the many “moderate” Imams and Islamic scholars who, at best equivocated on just who is “innocent” and just what is meant by “civilians.” We can also see better from two years later that the “cooperation” offered by these organizations has been lukewarm at best.
At the same time, extensive federal and other law enforcement investigations since September 11 have focused on Muslim Americans. These investigations have resulted in arrests and a small number of successful prsecutions on terrorism-related charges.

I think it would be better if the authors of this abortion manual just came out and admitted that they support global Islamization and stop with the transparent B.S. already.  Just a few paragraphs ago this very document admitted that “terrorists” used a “mantle of Islam.”.  Do the authors’ feel that it would be more productive to focus terrorism investigations on Lithuanian Jews?  Perhaps we could focus on Coptic Christians and gain Muslim trust by joining in on the accelerating genocide occurring in Egypt.
The worst bit though, is the downplaying of the charges and convictions resulting from terrorism investigations.  I must have missed the huge number of acquittals of accused plotters and abettors.  Or did I?  It certainly reads a little nonsensically; “a small number of successful prosecutions.” But, the report cannot feel the full number of prosecutions was excessive or surely it would have said so.  Would the authors have been happier if there had been a much larger number of charges and convictions?
Though any involvement of Muslim Americans with extremism raises strong concerns, independent studies have underscored that unlike in Europe, there is little, if any, publicly available evidence to date of widespread or entrenched extremist activity with links to al Qaeda or other global terrorist organizations.

More silliness that sounds like counsel from an enemy.  Are we to wait to be “concerned” about Muslim American “extremism” until AFTER global terrorists groups have “widespread or entrenched” cells in the U.S.”?  Are solo groups or individual extremists to be somehow off limits until that threshold is reached?  I think it is reasonable to start wondering by this point “whose side are they on anyway?”
Nevertheless, Muslim American efforts to dissociate themselves from the terrorist threat have not been fully effective for a number of reasons. The perception by many Americans that some Muslim American organizations and leaders have not fully and readily acknowledged the potential for radicalism within the community and the need for vigilance in countering it has been a barrier to understanding and dialogue.

My, isn’t the taqqiya getting thick now.  Note that it is the “perception by many Americans” of Muslim leaders not admitting potential radicalism or being vigilant in countering it that is the problem, NOT any actual failings by Muslim leaders.  Two years after the report was published this sentence is almost laughable in its transparent spin.  We do not have proper understanding and dialogue with Muslim Americans because non-Muslim Americans have stubbornly failed to see Muslim leaders doing something the report itself does not claim they actually DO.   We are probably also at fault when Muslim American children don’t floss.
Some Americans have continued to view Muslim Americans with suspicion because they question the compatibility of Islam with American values, focusing on issues such as the treatment of women and the separation of church and state.
This sentence actually is completely accurate, if you define the “they” as “Muslims Americans” and not “some Americans.” I would be willing to bet however, that this was NOT the authors’ intention. Americans are suspicious of Muslims regarding these matters because of the outspoken, anti-Western stand on them taken by MANY Muslim leaders claiming to be representatives of the mainstream.  The authors’ however seem to want us to believe that this suspicion is nothing but American Paranoia.
Many Muslim Americans and some other Americans believe that hostility toward Islam and Muslim Americans is preventing their voices from being heard and their contributions from being recognized.
Does your intelligence feel even a tad insulted yet?  No matter that every time a truly moderate Muslim voice speaks out CAIR and the other Taqqiya Moderates attack them for exposing Islam and Muslims to prejudice and potential violence, this report KNOWS that moderate Muslims are not heard because of non-Muslim hostility. They are not heard simply because the very people who sponsored this report work actively to suppress them and their voices.
Let us not forget that this report was prominently featured on the resources page of the Congressional Muslim Staffers Association!  We must assume that they carefully picked and chose just what links to include.  The disclaimer of association with the content is a tad disingenuous when there is but ONE link to ONE report on Muslim Americans provided.
The contention among some Americans that Islam is incompatible with American values is thought to fuel organized attempts to discredit Islam and exclude Muslims from the nation’s civic and political life. This has created fear and resentment among many Muslim Americans that has also contributed to an atmosphere of mistrust.

I like this one!  Another weasel word is introduced; contention. Forget about mentioning that ALL of the four main schools of Islamic thought agree that Islam is incompatible with ANY rule of law not based in Shari’a.  According to this eminent report it is merely the CONTENTION by evil Westerners that this is so that fuels the anti-Islamist tide that is rising in the West and in Islam itself.
Okaay. Are you still with us Virginia, you are looking a touch green about the gills.  Was it something you read?
The disengagement of Muslim Americans undermines American values, especially the conviction that the success of our nation relies on embracing our diversity and involving all our citizens in the public arena.

I wonder if anyone ever had the nerve to suggest to these people that “involving all our citizen’s…” means NOT treating Muslims ANY differently than anyone else in America?  That it means NO special enclaves, rules or accommodations out of line with those already afforded to other religions?  I for one would not put odds on it being likely they would listen.

The gathering climate of suspicion and mutual mistrust, exacerbated by the lack of engagement and dialogue, threatens to marginalize and alienate some Muslim Americans to the point where the danger of radicalization of a small minority could become a real possibility.

Such a nice country you have, it would be SUCH a SHAME if anything were to happen to it!

Is it a coincidence that the Mafia came from Sicily, where Islam just happened to have invaded and dominated the locals for a few hundred years immediately prior to their formation?  It must be. It just would not be PC to think otherwise, would it now?

It would take only a single, significant act of terrorism in the United States involving Muslim Americans to cement the impression that rampant radicalism has taken root within the community.

Really? Go tell that to CNN, CBS, ABC, FOX and all the other mainstream news channels that can’t seem to figure out why the Ft. Hood massacre happened.

Therefore, the Task Force believes that creating full and equal opportunities for civic and political participation of Muslim Americans is an urgent national need.

Who is it that is denying them these opportunities?  What I see are “mainstream” groups like CAIR telling the Muslim Americans to NOT act like they are fully American.  How else should we view CAIR’s instructions to Muslims residing in America to call a lawyer then notify CAIR if the FBI asks them about extremists in their community?

It is vital that Muslim Americans find ways to demonstrate visibly their commitment to America, its institutions, and its values. This well-educated, diverse group has the potential to make contributions to civic life and policy discourse as varied and numerous as those of any other group of Americans.

FINALLY, a statement that we can agree on without reservations!  It IS vital for Muslims in America to step up and be SEEN and HEARD supporting American values and institutions instead of demanding “respect” for practices outlawed long ago in the West for ALL peoples, religious or otherwise.

The Task Force prepared this report in order to present a balanced, nonpartisan assessment of the current Muslim American experience and recommendations for expediting the Muslim American journey to full civic and political integration. Many immigrant and minority groups have had to overcome suspicion and hostility in order to win full acceptance in the public sphere. While there is no doubt that Muslim Americans would in time achieve full integration in U.S. society, just as other groups have, the need to accelerate the process is urgent. The risks of inaction are substantial: further marginalization of Muslim Americans at best and serious alienation at worst.

Well we have seen how “balanced and non-partisan” first part of the executive summery is. Somehow I don’t think the recommendations will be any better.

The goal of bringing Muslim Americans into the fold of American life as quickly as possible is in the interest of all Americans. Muslim American leaders and organizations, government, the policy establishment, the media, and other major institutions all have significant roles to play in this process. The short-term need is critical, and the long-term gains cannot be overstated. The civic and political engagement of Muslim Americans will not only increase security, but enrich our policies, our society, and our standing as a nation that upholds basic human values of decency and fairness and that provides hope and opportunity for all.

So, once again we are assured that it is AMERICA that must adjust to Islam, not Islam to America.  Why do I get the feeling that the report’s idea of civic and political engagement for Muslims will not involve MUSLIMS giving up any of their non-Western ways?
Later I will look at the report’s six recommendations and the conclusion.  Right now I need a breath of fresh air.  I am feeling a bit nauseated by the smell of manure.

Abduction and Forced Islamization of Christian Coptic Girls Continues in Egypt

(AINA) — The systematic abduction and forced Islamization of Coptic minor girls in Egypt is a frequent, dangerous and a rapidly escalating phenomenon, The problem was brought to light by the Coptic Pope Shenouda III as far back as December 17th, 1976, when he protested during a conference held in Alexandria that “there is pressure being practiced to convert Coptic girls to embrace Islam and marry them under terror to Muslim husbands” and demanded that the abducted girls be brought back to their families.

Dr. Waheed Ala, renowned Coptic activist and researcher at the Observatory of Religions in Switzerland, believes that the issue of abducted Coptic girls forms the most complex problem in the relations between Christians and Muslims of Egypt — especially because abductions are done in cooperation between Saudi-funded associations and the Egyptian State Security.

These frequent abduction cases are reported by Coptic human rights advocacies but rarely by the main stream media, and when, they are mostly portrayed as ‘an elopement of a loving teen couple.’

Another recent victim of abduction is 15-year old Marian Bishay, who went out on July 15, 2009 to get dinner for her mother and young brothers from a local restaurant, 50 meters away from where she lives in Omrania, Giza, but failed to return home. The local police succumbed to pressure and issued a missing person report after initially refusing.

The Bishay family, whose father works in Kuwait, reported the matter to Free Copts advocacy in Cairo, asking for support. According to activist Osama Eid “the police just shrugged their shoulders and said there is nothing we can do, you search — which we actually did.”

When the abducted girl’s father, Amir Bishay, returned from Kuwait due to the incident, the police refused to issue another report under the pretext that they investigated the initial report with no results. The police also released three suspects who worked at that same restaurant.

“We had to participate with Marian’s family in their search” said Osama Eid. “We found out that the owner of the restaurant and one of his co-workers, who were under suspicion, disappeared when they knew that the matter was becoming serious, as the rest of the Bishay family came to Giza from Upper Egypt.”

Being unsuccessful in filing another report with the police, father Amir Bishay filed a complaint with the Attorney-General against three of the owners of the “Momen” restaurant in Omrania. He accused them of abducting his minor daughter.

The family has received conflicting reports of Marian’s whereabouts; some reports said she was raped and forced to convert to Islam, while others said that she was kept in Alexandria against her will.

Commenting on this case, renowned attorney Ramsis El Naggar said that according to Article 271, the abduction of a minor is punishable by 15 years imprisonment, and the penalty is increased if it was combined with rape.

‘It is strange that the State agencies abide by silence and protect the criminals who kidnap the girls, and that they put pressure on us so that we do not even call for the State to play its role in protecting its citizens,” said Dr. Waheed Ala, “We have noticed that when the kidnapped girl is a Muslim, the security agencies get active and work hard and arrest the kidnappers who then face trials and get imprisoned, but this does not happen when the kidnapped girl is a Coptic Christian. This is especially true because in the majority of cases, the State Security is the one who masterminds the kidnapping plans.”

In another case of abduction of a Christian Coptic girl, Mamdouh Nakhlah, attorney and President of “Al Kalema” human rights organization said that his Center, had received a plea for help from the brother of minor Reda Botros Samaan who disappeared on July 22, 2009 on her way to sit for her exams, in Dayrout, Assuit. Nakhla had to complain to the Minister of Interior on July 24 as the police refused to issued a report.

“After state security investigated, it was found out that although she was a minor, she converted to Islam,” said attorney Nakhlah. He explained that it is not allowed to entice a minor to change her religion, even of her own free will. “A minor does not have full power of consent, and his/her will is not considered in matters such as travel, marriage, banking, so it should not be taken in matter of changing of one’s religion, which is the most significant than the rest. A child follows his parent’s religion until he comes of age, then he/she has the right to change freely without being under the tutelage of anyone.”

Reports of tens of cases of kidnappings of minor girls from Christian families takes place every year, with very little, if any, success in getting them back to their families, and not one single person accused of abduction of Coptic girls has been brought to justice.

Reports on the disappearances in July 2009 which were reported to Coptic advocacies brought no positive news. The whereabouts of Irene Hanna Labib (AINA 7-18-2009), Amira Morgan and Ingy Basta (AINA 7-30-2009) is still unknown, despite their families efforts in locating them.

After years of denial, Dr. Mustafa Al-Fiqee, member in the Parliament and the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament, raised the issue of kidnapped Coptic girls in his article in the semi-official Al-Ahram newspaper “The Era Dialogue….All in One” published on January 7, 2008, in which he confessed that there are dozens of cases of “kidnapped minor girls from some Christian families.”

“The most important point in Dr. Mustafa Al-Feqee’s declaration is that he emphasized, without any doubt, that what the Copts of Egypt — both at home and in the Diaspora — say about the kidnapping of minor Christian girls is the truth.” commented Dr. Waheed Ala. “It is not lies, and it is not done to tarnish Egypt’s reputation. They simply demand that the State addresses this dangerous phenomenon. What tarnish the reputation of Egypt are the agencies of the Interior Ministry, with all their various specializations; the complicity of Al-Azhar, and the incitement and financing from Saudi Arabia.”
